Yoga Teachers Association (YTA) was created by a small group of pioneering yoga teachers in 1979 who saw the
need for affordable and continuing education. They also wanted to create a community of people interested in
Yoga. The Yoga Teachers Association is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to continuing and
improving the quality of Hatha Yoga teaching in accordance with the high standards of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika
and as developed by great yoga masters. Based in Westchester, N.Y., the YTA serves members from the tri-state
area. Currently, membership totals more than 200 yoga teachers and serious students of yoga.

variety of techniques and styles. Workshops are three hours long: from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM and are usually scheduled
for the second Saturday afternoon of each month. Workshops are fee-based and open to the public. Members of the YTA
receive discounted pricing for monthly workshops. See the workshop schedule for details.

Treasurer
Michael Sassano, RYT began his yoga journey in 1971 when he learned Transcendental Meditation, which started him on his spiritual path.
As he searched for ways to reduce stress, a work colleague introduced him to Tai Chi which he began to practice in 1999. After his colleagues
departure, he joined a newly formed Yoga Club at work. He has been practicing yoga since then.
Over the past two years, Michael became more involved with the Yoga Club eventually holding the positions of Treasurer and President.
During that time, when the teacher was unavailable, he took over and he taught some of the classes. That is how he became interested
obtaining his yoga teacher certification. Michael began teacher certification training in September 2003 at the New Age Center in Nyack
under the tutelage of Paula Heitzner and expects to be certified by January 2005. Since February of 2004, he has been teaching a yoga class
at his office after hours and has recently added an additional class.
When not teaching yoga or working, he spends time with his family, including his wonderful wife Nancy, son Michael, and daughter Catherine.
Among is other goals are learning to play the piano. Michael hopes that by teaching yoga he can help people improve their lives and work
towards the good of our planet.
